Your child is invited to participate in a complimentary speech, language and literacy screening at Ngarala Public School during school hours throughout Term 3, by certified Speech Pathologist, Alisha Seeto.

Aim

The aim of this screening is to identify early on whether your child may benefit from additional support with their speech, language, and/or literacy skills, so the right strategies can be put in place as soon as possible. Early identification can make a meaningful difference, helping children feel more confident, connect with their classmates, and engage fully in their learning at school.

Screening Process and Outcomes

Screenings will be conducted throughout Term 3 and will take approximately 20-30 minutes per child. A summary report will be emailed to parents within one week of their screening. Outcomes of the screening include:

• No further action recommended

• Monitoring of skills, and implementation of parent and teacher strategies

• Follow up of specified skills with a comprehensive assessment. Information and costs on assessments can be found here, and therapy information can be found here

Screening Areas

• Speech clarity

• Receptive language (e.g., understanding instructions and stories)

• Expressive language (e.g., using words, grammar and sentences, asking questions and sharing ideas)

• Stuttering

• Phonological Processing

• Spelling

• Reading

We understand that some students may be learning more than one language, which is fantastic! The aim of the screening, however is to gain information on a child’s English skills only, to ensure that they are able to listen, learn and play with their peers at school.

Voluntary Participation & Consent

This speech therapy screening is free for enrolled Kindergarten and Year 2 students at Ngarala Public School.

Information & Privacy

During the screening, notes may be taken about your child’s communication skills. This information:

• Will be kept confidential and adhere to the Easy As Speech Therapy Privacy Policy.

• Will only be shared with a child’s legal guardian and the learning support team at Ngarala Public School.

• Will be stored securely in line with NSW privacy legislation.
